Ottawa Citizen Best Restaurants 2026

About the Experience
Ottawa Citizen Best Restaurants returns for its second year with a large-scale tasting experience at the National Arts Centre.
More than 500 guests are expected to gather in the NAC’s Canal Lobby for an evening featuring signature dishes, local beverages and restaurants selected by longtime Ottawa Citizen restaurant critic Peter Hum. The format also gives guests an opportunity to connect with participating chefs and members of the Citizen newsroom while experiencing a broad cross-section of Ottawa’s culinary scene in one setting.
Why It Matters
Restaurants do more than feed a city. They shape neighbourhoods, create employment, support tourism, influence how visitors experience Ottawa and give people places to gather.
That makes this event interesting beyond the food itself. It brings together many of the people building Ottawa’s hospitality and culinary identity — alongside an audience actively interested in discovering what the city has to offer.
For RÄNDĀ VO͞O Discovery, that intersection of business, culture, hospitality and place is what makes the evening worth watching.
What to Expect
This is a walk-around culinary experience, not a traditional seated dinner.
Expect: • signature dishes from selected Ottawa restaurants; • local beverage offerings; • access to participating chefs; • opportunities to connect with Ottawa Citizen journalists; • a large social environment with 500+ attendees; • approximately three hours to explore the experience.
Who It’s For
A strong fit for professionals and business owners who enjoy distinctive local experiences, hospitality and tourism leaders, food enthusiasts, people entertaining clients or colleagues, and anyone looking to discover several Ottawa restaurants without committing to a single dining experience.
It may also appeal to those interested in the businesses and personalities shaping Ottawa’s hospitality sector.
The RÄNDĀ VO͞O Take
The value here is concentration.
Instead of experiencing one restaurant, guests get a snapshot of multiple parts of Ottawa’s culinary landscape in a single evening — inside one of the city’s most recognizable cultural venues.
At a starting ticket price of $226, this is firmly a premium experience. We think the value is strongest for someone who intends to explore the room, discover new restaurants and engage with the people behind the food, rather than treat it simply as dinner.
It is also the kind of event that illustrates why hospitality matters to a city: food becomes the entry point, but the broader experience is about people, place and discovery.
